The Trojans kicked off the season at home yesterday with a win 3-0 over #11 Butler.
After a challenging preseason, it was finally time to get the regular season started and the Trojans took advantage of the opportunity. It was the first of many matches this season that will feature the Trojans playing a ranked opponent. Butler came to town in what was to be another good game between the two sides. This time, the Trojans were able to score early and never looked back.
In the 9th minute of the game, Molly Lundy served a ball across that was headed back by the Butler defense to a waiting Leslie Razo. Razo took a great first touch and buried the shot in the lower left corner of the goal to put the Trojans up 1-0 amd give the Trojans their first goal of the season. Seven minutes later, Isabella Queneau took a long free kick that was batted out by the Butler goalkeeper, but Razo was again waiting to score to put the Trojans up 2-0. Both teams battled for the remainder of the half giving the Trojans a 2 goal lead at halftime.
The second half would feature much of the same as both teams tried to find another goal. In the 82nd minute, Lundy got free down the left side in the box and played in to Kamora Haralson who found Mary Awuah on the switch. Awuah beat her defender and scored her first goal of the season bringing the game to a 3-0 score. The game would end this way with the Trojans earning their first win of the season. Goalkeeper Bry Russell and her defense earned their first clean sheet of the season as well.
Next up, the ladies travel to Dallas Baptist for a Friday night scrimmage at 7pm.
